About Me

Yayi is an Environmentalist and Photographer holding a B.A.S. degree in Urban Sustainability with a concentration in Environmental Science from City University of New York Brooklyn College and an A.S in Fine Art from City University of LaGuardia Community College. Having interest in Science and the Arts is what led her to focus on Eco-spirituality and Ecofeminism concepts, thus allowing her to make the connection between the body and mind within nature. Her work has been featured at Queens Museum, Greenpoint Gallery, and various events around NYC.

Yayi is currently serving as a Green Infrastructure Coordinator at the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, where she plays a pivotal role in advancing the city's rain garden stewardship program. Her career has been marked by a deep commitment to environmental education and community engagement.

Prior to her current role, Yayi dedicated herself to fostering a connection between the people of New York City and the natural environment as an Urban Park Ranger with New York City Parks and Recreation. Through her efforts, she introduced thousands of New Yorkers to the wonders of the natural world, organizing weekend adventure programs and providing outdoor education to schools across the city. Yayi's work as an Urban Park Ranger underscored her belief that fostering this connection is fundamental to building a sustainable city for future generations.

Before her tenure as an Urban Park Ranger, Yayi served as an Environmental Educator with NYCH2O, a non-profit organization focused on water ecology education. In this role, she played a crucial part in leading outdoor educational initiatives that aimed to deepen understanding and appreciation of water resources among diverse communities.

Yayi's commitment to environmental advocacy and community empowerment also extends to her experience as an Organizer for Food & Water Action. In this capacity, she was instrumental in mobilizing and engaging young voters during the 2018 New York State elections, contributing to a successful campaign that resulted in a significant win for a State Senator nominee.

Throughout her career, Yayi has demonstrated a passion for environmental stewardship, education, and civic engagement. Her diverse experiences have equipped her with a unique perspective on the intersections of urban life, sustainability, and community involvement. Yayi continues to be a driving force in initiatives that promote environmental awareness and empower communities to actively participate in shaping their sustainable future.
